DFDS Seaways and Forth Ports announced they will invest over 6 million euros in the future of the Rosyth-Zeebrugge freight route. The investment plan has the support of Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon who acknowledges that the Rosyth to Zeebrugge freight route is a vital link for Scotland’s economy.

Stein van Est, Route Director DFDS Seaways ensures that “the investment programme will secure a long-term perspective for the Rosyth-Zeebrugge route and enable companies to continue to use a direct, environmentally friendly means of transport between Scotland and the continent.”

The investment plan includes a new environmental technology (i.e. the equipment of the vessels with scrubbers) and a fuel optimisation programme.

The plan will also result in infrastructure adjustments at the terminal in Scotland, to facilitate the double-stacking of containers on board the vessel.
