The Port of Tyne is working with Hitachi Rail Europe, shipping operator Höegh Autoliners and Nissan Shipping Agents UK to unload Hitachi train body-shells at its port facility

The body-shells are arriving from Japan into the Port of Tyne before being unloaded and transported to Hitachi’s new Rail Vehicle Manufacturing Facility in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham. The engine sets are being moved from Japan by K Line over Teesport.

The first shipment of five body-shells bound for Newcastle-on-Tyne left Kobe in Japan at the end of August on board HÖEGH TOKYO and arrived in early October. The port transloaded the 26m long, 28t pieces from Höegh Autoliners’ rolltrailers to low loaders for on-carriage by road to Newton Aycliffe, using its two Gottwald HSK rail-mounted portal harbour cranes in a tandem lift.

The next shipment over the Port of Tyne is due to arrive in early November.
