London Container Terminal

Forth Ports owns and operates London Container Terminal, following the outright purchase of the business (previously known as Tilbury Container Services/TCS) in 2012.

Since acquiring TCS Forth Ports have committed a £35 million programme of investment and development of the terminal. Recent investments have positioned LCT for growth in core markets, delivering the country’s newest short sea container cranes, specialist facilities for CON-RO vessels and a new fleet of straddle carriers integrated with a fully automated road truck reception gate and bespoke terminal operating system.

The terminal is Europe’s largest terminal for refrigerated containers, with 1,400 reefer plugs on terminal and access to a 25,000 pallet space cold store facility operated by NFT.

LCT handles both deepsea and shortsea containerships across berths inside the dock and at the deepwater riverside berth, which have depths alongside to 13.7 metres. The terminal has a total of 1.72 km of berthage and will accommodate vessels of up to10,000 teus.

London Container Terminal Offers:

  • Capability to handle in excess of half a million containers each year.
  • The only UK port with facilities to serve both deep sea and European short sea customers.
  • Significant trading position with the North and South reefer (refrigerated container) trades, primarily South America, India, North Africa and Australasia with a strong presence in other deep sea trades.
  • Serves short sea businesses, which provides links to Continental Europe and to other UK coastal feeder locations.
  • 24/7 working

A “Construction Materials and Aggregates Terminal” (CMAT) for handling and processing bulk construction materials. This will be located at the northern part of the site.

Other parts of the site will be used for storage of bulk goods or vehicles, much as seen on the existing Port.
